SynapsTogether is the business that bundles the many portals I use—books, magazine articles and columns, blogs and seminars— to explain cortical plasticity. My interest in brain plasticity began in the late 90's when I got involved in clinical trials for stroke recovery. Many of the studies on which I'm a co-author have used fMRI and TMS to scan the brain pre/ post intervention.

After spending a decade in research I came to find that some of the most important attributes of brain plasticity are simple.

100 billion neurons. A thousand trillion connections between those neurons. Sounds pretty complicated. But humans have been effectively and dramatically driving brain plasticity for at least 200k years.

Rewiring the brain to recover from stroke is the same as rewiring to become a better musician, athlete, artist, educator, manager... whatever.... The problem is that most researchers in neuroscience and other disciplines that know the most about neuroplasticity don't do very good job of explaining their work. And the work is fascinating and important. It deserves being explained to "the rest of us."

Explain it to myself and then explain it to others.

I love my job.
